Paul Muite’s Safina party has lost its secretary general.

John Wamagata, a lawyer, passed away last Wednesday and will be buried on Friday.

Safina executive director David Wanjohi on Monday said the family of Wamagata has agreed to hold the funeral on Friday.

He said the funeral service will be held at Mama Ngina Primary School Kinoo in Kikuyu constituency and his body will be laid to rest at his farm just next to the school.

Wanjohi said the party had lost a strong mobiliser, a strategist and a leader who was brave.

“We have lost an important personality, a person who did not entertain nonsense,”

he said, adding that Wamagata was also the party’s liason representative at the political party’s national committee.

Wanjohi said Wamagata will be remembered for the role he played during the struggle for the multiparty democracy and the founding of Safina.

The role he played at the civil society will be remembered when he led human rights activists to take rotten dead rats and pigs heads to Parliament, county assemblies and other government offices so as to push for the respect of human rights.

Safina member Walter Magana revealed that it was reported that Wamagata was rushed to Coptic hospital last Sunday, but he passed away on Wednesday.

He says that his body is lying at Umash funeral home as burial preparations are ongoing.
